Volunteers and members have been doing big things for the garden! We are prepping for and planning to put the money from the Patriot Green Fund into good use by improving the garden in several ways. There will be redesigning and building of various structures to make the garden more aesthetic and communal. These structures include a new archway trellis, a flagstone path, and a raised keyhole bed. We will also be planting perennial plants, fruit trees like Asian pear trees, cherry trees, among others. For our final outcome of the redesign, we hope that the garden will be a place for students to learn more about plants and hopefully develop an interest. We could use all the willing helping hands for the renovation! Garden hours are posted weekly on the GOGA Facebook page for anyone who is interested.
Here is a photograph taken of some volunteers, including myself after digging and laying down new compost for the garden renovation.
Also, everyone keep in mind that Sustainable Food Day is coming up on April 25th! This event will be part of Earth Week. It entails:
